Default 275/45/20 rear tire

I just got these radials put on to help out with clearance issues. Let me know what you think...they are 29.5 inches tall!!!! They definately changed the stance of the car....for the better or for the worse? You decide.

Hope you have some stiff rear springs. May want to think about putting some 4.30s in the rear to regain a portion of the performance you just lost.

4.30s are going in Monday. My cai and bama tune should be here wensday. Why would I need stiff rear springs? Wheel hop?

And shouldn't 4.30s not only regain the performance I lost but also make it perform better?

Your tires are about 2.5" larger in O.D. than stock which is killing your performance. 4.30's should bring you back a bit but what a way to screw with your final drive ratio. Your final ratio isn't that much different than me with my 275/40/18's and 3.55's; you'd be darn close to my ratio with 3.73's.

Besides the O.D. robbing you, that's a lot more rotational mass to overcome. Who recommended 275/45/20's?

What do you mean by my O.D. robbing me?
I'm new to mustangs and this is my first mustang. I had talked to American Muscle about my tires because it was the cheapest route to go in regards to my clearance issues. I only had 2" clearance with my side exhaust and it would rub on everything and there was no way I was going to lose the side exhaust. I also wasn't about to drop 2500 into air ride suspension.
Back to the original statement...
What do you mean by "screwing with my final drive"?
And my final drive with these tires should come out to be 3.98 which is still a significant jump from 3.55's so performance should be better.

The larger O.D. drops your overall ratio; dead opposite of what you're attempting to do with the 4.30's. Additionally, going with a 20" wheel AND a larger tire than that which would maintain an equivalent factory O.D., you're adding a great deal of rotational mass (weight). Had you used a 20" tire which would have maintained an equivalent factory O.D. such as a 275/30 or 35/20, those 4.10's would be a more significant jump from the 3.55's than those bigger tires and the 4.30's. Although with a 30 or 35 profile, ride quality suffers a bit but those are the breaks when you go to a 20" wheel.

As far as the wheel gap, a 1" -1.5" drop would be all you needed and would have also improved the ride.

Nice to know.
I just picked up the car today and hated the way it looks...that's why I made this thread so others don't make the same mistake i did. But I still have clearance issues. Thank god I spent the extra 20 bucks to guarantee full refund of these tires. I am going to send them back and get 295/40 in the read and 255/40 up front. I found a car with this setup and it looks pretty good and it will still fix my clearance issues while also helping reduce the rotational mass.

With a 20 inch rim, you shouldn't go any higher than 35 sidewall. But if the 40 is what you need, go for it.
