I thought it was linkage related...
Enjoy your gear slamming man.

Funny I've been chasing a nuisance rattle coming from *somewhere* as I rev up through the gears & have recently realized it might be coming from the shifter linkage area.. Everything seems tight, and no slop in the shifter freeplay. But I HATE the buzzing rattle I've been getting since I bought the car (the shifter was already installed when I bought it)

Is this just normal for the Hurst shifter?

GreyStang, try putting a little lubricant in the shifter. Just run a bead around the ball/socket joint that's right inside the brass bushing. I used Break-Free Lubricant/Preservative which is a weapons oil available in many firearms departments of sporting-good stores. Took the rattle right out of my Hurst.

edit:

Just an image for clarification. Apply lubricant to where the green line is.

Thanks Kotobuki I will try that. I really like the shifting action of the Hurst a lot, but the buzzing noise is really irritating & makes the car *sound* cheap

I've noticed the buzzing is much reduced if I hold pressure on the shifter handle while revving up.

My hurst shifter does the same thing, has some play in it. It too is loose at the transmission linkage... So there is no way of tightening it or fixing it??? =/

I took my hurst out of the car to look at the rattling as well as some other issues. I found out there was just enough play in the pivot ball that you could move it around, and this was causing my rattling.

Basically any light oil or penetrating oil will go a long way toward fixing this problem because it helps fill this small "gap" around the ball. I put some Kroil on mine and moved the stick around, it took a few minutes but I could feel a difference.

The actual "play" in the linkage itself is normal...I believe the actual linkage has some rubber bushings in it or something, which makes it feel a little sloppy.
