Default excessive heat while driving.

As Im driving my 07 GT Iam getting what seems like an excessive amount of heat into the cabin. The engine temp gauge reads normal, and it seems like the transmission maybe the source of the heat. However I had a friend suggest it might be coming from the exhaust. Anybody have this issue, is this normal?
I also want to get my cooling system flushed and refilled and want the best coolant available can somebody recommend something.

Heat from the tranny is pretty common. Has it gotten worse than in past years? Or could it be that now that temps are getting warmer you're simply noticing the heat gain?

Most any name brand coolant at the proper mix will be fine. But if the heat's from the tranny, then replacing the coolant won't do much if nothing.

I've noticed the heating issue in my 08 also. Doesn't really bother me, I'll crank on the A/C or roll down the windows to cool down the cabin. The most noticeable part of the heat is coming from the driver side and passenger side foot-well.

Further research around the interwebs states that the excessive heat is coming from the cats. Apparently the slim piece of silver metal that is used as a heat shield is not doing the job correctly.

If it's a manual transmission, changing to a good synthetic will reduce the heat. I've been using royal purple synchromax for years.

It's the heater core. There is always hot engine coolant flowing into the cabin and through the heater core. The only way to completely eliminate it is to install a manual bypass valve to physically stop the fluid from flowing.

Even if you don't want to get the new transmission fluid as moosestang suggested, check your fluid level. I noticed excessive heat from the transmission tunnel in my truck, didn't pay much attention to it and the engine crapped out a few months later. When I finally tore it apart I found that the fill plug was missing, and only about 3/4 cup of fluid came out of the drain. Guess the shop either didn't put it back in or tighten it properly after a slave cylinder change. Just something to check.
