Default How to tell if forced induction?

This is kind of embarrassing...

I have never driven a forced induction car in my life, and as such, I am not very familiar with them. I semi recently sold my 03GT and am now looking into an 06GT that is being sold near my house for a fair price.

This 06GT has a boost gage and an A/F ratio gage installed in it. It makes me think it might have a supercharger or nitrous installed in it. And since I want to seem like I know my ISH when I check this car out...I was wondering what to look for..

Can you get pictures of the engine? If it's got a super charger its going to have a pretty big intake sitting on it.

Something kind of like this, while this is a GT500 its got a super charger. Will be right on top and have a huge pulley.

Wouldn't the owner put that in his ad? That's a big selling point for most people. An air/fuel gauge could be just a narrow band gauge. Some people put them in for show. Boost gauge could be the same thing, it's also a vacuum gauge.

You'll see a big blower on top of the motor like this.

Nitrous is not the same as boost, no boost gauge for nitrous.

Yea it's not listed in the ad. I called the dealer and he had no idea. Gave me the whole, "when can you come in and check?" line.

Carfax is clean but its been sold 4 times already!

51K miles, no nav unit, torch red with white double strip. has some very nice rims, red leather, etc. dealer wants 17,500

I would definitely take it to my mechanic to have it checked out before purchase. Has small damage to the driver's side rear bumper too

Open the hood and look. It'll have something like the picture previously posted, or it could have a snail-looking thing with lots of pipes if it's a centrifugal supercharger or turbo, similar to this.

Frankly, if you are unfamiliar with what a supercharger looks like, I would recommend you take a pass on this one. I'd hate for you to buy a GT without knowing what's necessary to supercharge it properly and wind up with a grenaded engine and no car. Hope this helps.

As a general rule, if you don't know what a sc'er looks like...you don't need to own one.
