Question New GT! got some questions about K&N CAI

Hey guys, just picked up an 05 GT with only 31k miles on her! she already has staggered american racing wheels and nittos, along with a K&N CAI. I know the K&N doesn't require a tune, and I've heard this is because there is a restrictor inside the tube of the cai. Is this true of the K&N? because a tuner is going to be my first mod, and I would like to get the most power out of it possible. Just wondering if anyone knows, I will tear it apart as soon as I get the car home Saturday but if someone already knows the answer that would be great!

Here she is

It really depends on your budget, but I'd probably go ahead and get a tuner. K & N doesn't require a tune, but there are lots of good brands out there. I'd go Steeda or JLT with a tune now, so everything is done at once. Seems like that would make more sense than buying K & N now and wantingmsomethingmdifferent later.

Then you gotta tint those windows bro.

it already has a K&N installed by the previous owner, I was wondering if it has an insert that tapers down the inner diameter basically though (the reason it doesn't need a tune I've heard) and oh yeah! tinted windows are first on the list of mods with black leather interior and 100 degree days here

Ok I gotcha. Need another expert to weigh in on that K & N though.

I have the same insert, (they call it a venturi tube I think) on my air raid cai kit. Once you have a tuner it can be removed to give you a bump in hp and tourqe. I've been using the bama tuner with mine. As far as whether or not your kit has it, just remove the main tube and have a look

As long as your K&N has a removable insert, I'd stick with it when you get your custom tune especially if you're on a budget. The difference in RWHP between a CAI with the insert removed and a tune-required CAI is between negligible and nothing.
