I read somewhere that the 4.6L engines in the 05-09 Mustang Gts, if there is a letter W seventh place in the VIN number than it means engine was made in Romeo Michigan. Is this true. I would prefer engine to be USA made instead of made in Canada if possible. Just would be cool. I heard that the new Coyote 5.0 engine is made in Canada. What about the automatic transmission in the 05-09 Mustang Gts, made in USA? Ger.

This attached file explains what the VIN digits mean n the S197's, but I don't think there is a way to determine whether the engine was built somewhere else away from the rest of the car.

The new 5.0 coyotes are for sure all built in Windsor, ON, Canada (Canada's motor city).

I am not sure about the previous model years.
