Engine noise after CAI/tune/oil change
Hello everyone!
Recently put a Steeda CAI and Bama Tune on my 2013 GT. I also changed the oil from 5W30 Royal Purple to 10W40. My car has the track pack so I thought it wouldn't hurt considering UnleashedBeast's study on the svtperformance forums.
Anyways, after I run the car, I get a strange ticking noise that sounds like its being made from heat, almost like a pebble hitting the paint. It especially happens when I take off (had a buddy do a first gear run while I ran next to it).
Also, when I've had the car running, the engine sounds like a moneycounter... the ones that count your stack when you hit the bank. Is this normal or is it because of my oil weight and my mods, or possible another problem with the car?

We send out thousands of tunes and build them all from the ground up for your PCM code and your mods. They're not just "canned" tunes, they're built custom by our team, so every once in a while it's possible we mess one up! We'll definitely get it straightened out for you, though! Shoot me a PM with your order number included and I'll have a bama tuning specialist contact you directly.
Hang in there, we'll help you troubleshoot and you'll be good to go in no time!

I have a 93 octane tune and 93 octane gas. My ticking isn't coming from the internals. Its an external tick that I hear a couple times every few moments or so. Its not consistant either. As far as the pinging is concerned, the car starts up just fine and sounds normal at first, but then turns into the money-counter after it warms up.

Is this just on start up (when cold) or all the time?
Newer engines have way tighter tolerances so I'm not sure if the oil change to 10W-40 is warranted for your car... I'd try dropping back to 5W30 per the manual and see if the problem goes away, if it does, there's your problem. Oil is too thick to circulate through the engine properly. You can argue all day long why running a higher viscosity oil is advantageous. I can argue the complete opposite or argue the same as you all day long.
Point is, you changed something (several at once actually) and now you notice a difference. Only way to be 100% certain what the problem is, is to switch one item (at a time) back to how it was before until the problem disappears...THEN can you be certain what the problem actually is/was.
The other option is to switch the tune and CAI back to stock.
You mentioned a 93 octane tune and gas, how many tanks of 93 have you run before switching it? Maybe try a lower octane tune with your 93 gas to see if the problem goes away. If it does, then either it's bad gas, or your 93 is still diluted with non 93 gas (run more tanks of 93 before switching, or the timing on the tune is too far advanced. You can retard it manually or have AM do it.
I do mine manually during the summer due to heat then set it back to 'AM stock' during the rest of the year.
