Default 2013 Vortech 5000 rpm

Just picked up my 2013 from the speed shop with my new Vortech installed. I was pretty excited and for the first little bit thought I was having traction problems at higher rpms.

I turned off traction control did some more testing and the car pulled hard to 5000 rpm, then stopped. It could get to 6000 rpm, but it wasn't easy.

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up that the vortech kit uses the factory spark plugs. The factory plugs are not always gapped correctly. The shop I took it to, unfortunately, did not check the gaps. I did see a couple posts about a similar issue and things were mentioned like replace fuel pump or check fuel filter etc.

The solution seems simple and maybe even unbelievable, but it worked. The gaps are supposed to be .032 and some were .055 or even more. The Vortech support guy (nice and very helpful) told me if the gap is too big the spark can get blown out at higher boosts.

An hour at the speed shop and now the spark plugs are all now gapped and man this car pulls hard all the way to redline.

Sometimes the easy fix works!

Very interesting. In this day of "pre gapped" plugs I can see people not understanding the need to adjust the plug gap or that it is even a factor.
Good read!
