Default Stupid tuner question?

Ok, I've got a 14. Gent has an 06 with a tuner. He flashed back to stock tune and is willing to sell me the tuner. In my research at SCT, it should be the same tuner.

Here's where I get confused. On AM, it shows 2 different tuners but only with AM part numbers. Does this mean that AM installs the tunes based on year? 05-09, and 10-14? Or am I just out to lunch?

Thanks!

They're the same. Likely SCT3015.

No, you won't be able to install the preloaded tunes since they are from a 4.6 mustang. I'm positive even the preloaded ones still need your vin# and ECU code.

That's where I'm confused. According to SCT website, the tuner is preloaded for 96-2014. Both the 06 and 14 use the same part number. Where/who would load different tunes for each vehicle?

jester, when i bought the tuner from AM, before they shipped it they had me fill out a questionare with my car specs, then they made 3 tune (street, race, performance) put them on the tuner and sent them to me.

thats what it means by preloaded, they come loaded with tunes for my car, so you will have to get new tunes because if you try to use mine your car will probably break.

Those are the custom tunes. There's preloaded ones on there, too...at least mine has them. Aside from the custom tunes, as you stated, there's a 91 octane tune, 93 octane tune, different tunes for different intakes and different tunes. These preloaded ones you can adjust yourself, too. If these are the ones the OP is talking about I couldn't see them working the same on all the years, considering the 05-09 + 10 have different factory tunes. Plus, the 11-12 is factory tuned different than the 13-14s. Best thing to do OP is call AM customer service. They will square you away.

You will have to get tunes custom written for your vin# and ECU code. Any tunes already on the tuner won't work for yours, preloaded or custom. Get ahold of AM so you can give the needed info to get yourself some tunes. I don't know the cost, though.

okay i see, i never even messed with the preloaded tunes as i just went straight to custom tunes, but to get to the preloaded tunes you go to program vehicle- then scroll over to "strategy tunes".... jester i dont think these preloaded ones would work for you as they are written for 05-09 GT i thnk, but u said ur calling AM tomorrow so hope they can clear it up.

but i think if u order tunes they can mail them to you and you can put them on this tuner, but best to call and ask tomorrow.

one thing I found weird about my tunes is that my preloaded 93 octane tune feels more powerful than my custom 93 race tune. Could be my imagination, though.
