2010 Mustang Hood Corrosion!
#22
I went to a local car show 2 weeks ago. There were 12 Mustangs there that have aluminum hoods. 10 of those cars had bubbling paint on the hood to varying degrees. Some of the older cars look like the problem was always there, just didn't spread much. A couple of cars were as bad as mine. Of the 2 cars that did not show any signs, 1 had replaced the hood with an after market hood.
2 of the cars were still under factory warranty and I informed the owners of the issue, showed them the other cars and hopefully they will get taken care of by Ford. I would ask all Mustang owners who are aware of this problem to do the same if the opportunity arises.

Knock on wood, but I examined the hood of our '08 GT again today .... and still no sign of any corrosion anywhere.
I'm sorry ....

I guess it really depends on if any other metal got in there. if even a tiny bit of iron dust gets trapped in the seam, once water gets in there corrosion is inevitable. dissimilar metals in the presence of an electrolyte will destroy each other in short order.

Only wish I had done the research before purchasing my Mustang. Really didn't buy the car with the idea that I'd be stuck with it. I can't even trade it in unless I take $2000 under KBB lowest trade-in value for poor condition because of the hood.

As I posted in another similar thread, I just noticed this on my 7000 mile, garage kept 2010 GT.
Pisses me off. Of course it shows up after the warranty has expired.
Good luck getting Ford to work with you on crap like this. I took mine in for the common faulty AC blend doors, hoping that due to the miles they would work with me and either warranty it, or at least cut me a break on the cost.
They pretty much told me to go F___ myself, without actually saying those actual words.
I'm going to have a hard time justifying buying a new Ford in the future. It seems like they time this crap to happen *right* when the warranty expires.

And another Light Bulb idea is the issue of the 2 piece spark plugs in the 05-07's. A poor design that results in the requirement of the design of a "Broken Spark Plug Removal tool" to fix the problem and of course Ford will charge customers who want this design flaw fixed. They just want your money - not stand behind products they design with flaws in them. I understand what warranties are for - to protect against defects in materials etc.- but for design flaws that become known issues - a reputable manufacturer would stand behind these items and not just if they are safety issues - but I guess I expect too much.
