Yes.

YES. I've driven both. If you don't know what you're talking about, then stop talking.
Yes, I do know what I'm talking about. The first thing that comes to people's mind who are into cars when they hear S550 is a Mercedes Benz. Not the new mustang. I hadn't heard the name "S550" Mustang, so it could have been little more clear.

Not really sure why one article is more valid than the other. I'd like to see someone actually weigh both back-to-back on the same scale with the same amount of fuel, etc. Motor Trend doesn't specify their sources (although I thought they typically weigh their test cars), but the jalopnik article is comparing a dealer spec sheet vs Ford website estimates. I'm obviously not saying either is wrong, but I don't see them as being rock solid sources, either.

look, these are the official numbers:

http://www.ford.com/cars/mustang/spe...ns/capacities/

V6 Manual 3526
V6 Automatic 3530
EcoBoost® Manual 3532
EcoBoost® Automatic 3524
GT Manual 3705
GT Automatic 3729

I know it says "estimated" but that doesn't mean the numbers came out of someone's ***. it's that no two cars will weigh exactly the same, and the weight of any individual car might be different based on option content.

These are the 2014 numbers:

http://www.ford.com/cars/mustang/201...ns/capacities/

V6 Manual 3496
V6 Automatic 3518
GT Manual 3618
GT Automatic 3675

on a like-for-like basis, S550 is 12-87 lbs heavier than S197.

I just saw on another website, someone weighed their 2015 GT Manual, fully loaded, 3/4 full gas tank, and it came out to 3780. so empty the tank and you are right on the published numbers for a 2015.

Except curb weight is supposed to include a full tank of gas. The Ford specs, however, don't specify equipment level. So maybe fill the tank and take out the moonroof and you are there. Who knows.

when they say "Base curb weight" they mean the weight of the base configuration of each model (no options,) with all fluids and a full tank of gas.

True, and I'm pretty sure these cars don't have moonroofs... pretty sure. But the premium package with all the extra electronics and speakers and stuff make a difference in weight for sure, and they guy may have had a spare tire too, not sure about that.

Now this is my dilemma, whould you guys rather get an s550 5.0 (in about a year once they get cheaper) or a 13-14 5.0 and with the money you save invest it into a set of nice coil-overs and exhaust system (maybe even a watts-link if the budget allows it)? How much better do you guys think the S550 will handle in comparison with a coil-over equipped S197. Yes the S197 has a a live rear axle, but through experience my v6 with the performance package handles just great. Yes its no German suspension and it does get a bit sketchy when you hit a bump mid corner, but for the most part its handle like a dream.
So what do you guys think?
I have the same dilemma. For me it depends on whether dealers artificially mark up prices on the new cars and what interest rates are available when it comes time to buy. I have a target date of sometime in July/August '15 so I am taking a wait and see attitude. Not sure if many CPO '15s would be around by then but that is an option too.
