Default Clutch Question

For approximately 18,000 miles I had to depress the clutch pedal all the way to the floor to get it to fully release, and engagement was almost immediate from the bottom with a lot of "free play" at the top of the pedal range. Almost overnight, the clutch now engages about 1/3 the way up and there is no "free play" at the top, almost feels like it's ready to slip at the slightest pedal motion. I can't see any means of adjusting the master push rod and nothing seems to have moved on the linkage side. How does one wear out a clutch without abusing it in 2000 miles? Is there some retainer that could have suddenly slipped?

Bad throw out bearing/slave would be my guess. Possibly an entire list of things. The clutch is not adjustable to my knowledge with the exception of shims during install. If there is no warrunty left I would search around for a good shop to take a look.
