Default Quarter Mile Times for S197 GT

I just started drag racing about a year and a half ago now. I race a 2007 Mustang GT 4.6L. I'm curious if people are actually still racing theirs because it seems the 3 valve has been forgotten for the coyotes and the newest mustang. I'm also curious what others ETs were with little modifications? I'm still running street tires and I only have a torque convertor, 373s, a cold air kit, and moroso mufflers. The best ET I got with the car was a 12.907 at 105.29. I have an inconsistant 1.79 60' ft still on the street tires and occasionally I can pull the front tires up with the launch. If anybody is still racing this car thats a street and strip car let me know, I feel like I can't be the only s197 in the 12s with no work on the car

I'm also in the 12's with only mild modifications. The Coyote may be the flavor of the moment but a mildly modded 4.6 3v can still haul (and kick) ***. My GT has a 360lb weight advantage over the new GT and doesn't need as much power to keep up.

FWIW, the NJ strips seem to enjoy good DA numbers - which may be putting you a little ahead of many 4.6 cars in other parts of the country.

Depending on how long it's been since the spark plugs were changed last, there may be a noticeable improvement from a fresh and properly/consistently gapped set. Yes, I know that this is a PITA job on the earlier S197's with considerable risk of plug breakage, but from recently doing this job on my '08 (with the 'easy' plugs) and running it hard at one of NJMP's road courses there sure is benefit to be had.

Street tires are your issue. Get some mickey Thompson drag radials and your 60 foots will be spot on. I race the hell outta my car and even won the Sportsman Championship this year. The 4.6 is a work horse at the track. My car has around 500 passes. I've seen bolt on cars with a TC hit high 12s like yours too. The great DA you get in NJ helps huge.

I did 11.9 on a 91 octane Ford tune and sticky tires. Fully optioned 2012 Brembo car with a stick.

My 2014 auto doesn't really feel much slower but, Spring will tell.

really nice numbers, i can't remember what i was running when i was mildly modified. But it was similar but not as good. your sixty is surprisingly good for street tires
