Here. You can see how it's already biting into the tape. I replaced the thicker double sided with electrical tape. Temporary fix. I will try a new striker assembly next. But this is definitely the problem.

The new striker assembly I got is the updated version (original equipment on 13+)

This fixes the problem, notice it's beefier than my original.
