Default Changing Only Rear Coil Springs

Hi Guys, Has anyone here changed out just the rear coil springs on their S197? I currently have a 2 ¼” wheel gap in the front and a 3 ¼” wheel gap in the rear with the factory suspension on my ’06 GT. I am looking to install a set of Roush rear springs (part # 401295) which is supposed to give a ½” drop. I’m not looking to go any lower than the 2 ¼” gap that the front currently has so I figure if I just drop the rear by ½” with the Roush springs to level out the ride height a bit I should be good. Has anyone else done this? Thanks a lot for any help or advice you can give me.

Dave

I did that on my 2006, with the Roush springs; leveled out the stance. One thing though, cut the top "nipple" off your rear bump stops. If you don't the ride will be very harsh since the body and axle will be meeting up at every bump.

Thanks a lot for the reply and advice JimC. How much of the bump stops did you cut off? I'm guessing just the top section (about an inch or so). Thanks again for your help!

Just the top section is all. There are 3 (I think) sections and it was just the very top small section.

You'll need an adjustable panhard bar also. Otherwise your axle will not be centered.

For only 1/2" drop, I wouldn't worry much about the axle being pushed off center before you've actually dropped the car, re-indexed the various control arm and PHB bushings, and driven it around a little.

Maybe have somebody else sit in the driver seat and drive it forward/back it up to settle the suspension and stay in the car while you check axle centering before you even start the lowering project. Have them do the same thing after driving it (lowered) so you'll know how much it changed for when you're driving it. What it looks like when parked is less important.
