Default Won't shift or release key from ignition?

Hi Guys

Been a while, need a little help please, so my wife took out the 05 GT to work the other day, made it home but she couldn't get the key out of the ignition. I went out and I couldn't either, it won't shift at all either, the engine will turn off but won't release the key when its in park. The only way I could find to release it was to disconnect the battery. Today I read about the little button you push under the auto console and I could get it to shift using this button only but still not able to get the key out. Brake lights are working fine but I did notice the shiftier **** when pressed in don't make the clicking sound which normally allows me to shift.

Has anyone else had this issue please?

Thanks

Stuart

Thank you, still no luck. I have turned the wheels all over and nothing. I took the shifter apart to see if anything in that but looks fine, no warning lights or anything to help. Only way to get the key to release is to remove power to the battery.

Looked at the fuses not tested them but they all look fine. Brake lights work, wondered if it was a brake light switch but surly the brake lights wouldn't work if this was the problem?

Thank you, spent forever on Google but I figured it out, it's not going into park which is why it wasn't releasing the key from ignition, there is a small micro switch that needs replacing as it wasn't making contact correctly under the center console when pushing into park. Going to order it now , hopefully that will fix it. Thank you.
