That, and under that slight load there is more air and fuel going into the motor.
Like I said, a not so sweet spot... The idle can be upped while in gear too,
should be around 800 RPM while in gear, idle. I would not go much above
that, would be too much friction on the clutch pack...

It's not the first time I have heard that, even back in the day with carburetors, it
sounded like that at idle, and then you either adjusted the A:F manually at the
carb, or tweaked the distributor... It was easy then, now, you need a tuner
to to those adjustments for the cam.

I'll change the idle speed in D to 800 and see if that does anything for it. So you also think it could be an issue with the tune? Unfortunately it doesn't give me an option on the tuner to adjust AF, just global spark timing and WOT AF. Nothing for idle.. I would probably have to take it back to the person that dyno tuned it and I doubt he would bother retuning it. At least not for free anyways, I've had these cams and this tune for like 4 years now. I've just now bothered asking about this

I changed it to 800 and it doesn't make that noise now. Sometimes its not as lopey, but it doesn't go to that weird sounding idle.

It seems like anywhere from 600-750 is what makes it idle weirdly.

The low idle just exposes the overlap with the valves because it's turning slower.
Amazing what +50 more revolutions per minute will do...

So i guess this can be chalked up to this being a normal problem with big cams? Nothing can really be done about it?

& I guess so, thats kinda odd though. At like 500-550 it sounds really lopey and doesnt make that noise. Only problem is that its not very loud at that rpm, and the car acts like it wants to die when coming to a stop

You should have heard what people did in the 60s and 70s with Big Radical cams. They
sounded like yours, just that back then it was the "thing" and now, kids don't like the
sound of it.

Have you ever heard a funny/drag car at idle? They sound like that, that blub-blub-blub-blub-blub
lop sided idle, but much louder because of the straight pipes.

Does your exhaust have an "X" pipe or "H" pipe? The "X" pipe may also reduce some of
that with it's better scavenging properties than an "H" pipe. "X" pipes help scavange
exhaust from the cylinders. If you already have an "X" pipe, well, then there's not
much more that can be done except fine mechanical tuning.

Like you said, you've been dealing with it for 4 years now. These cams are specifially
made for that old muscle car sound.

These all do the same thing at idle:

Do a search on yahoo for the ***** thumpr cams, and watch all the videos, they all do it.

Yeah i've heard drag cars that sound like that. I thought their cam was just more for power and not sound.

It's an offroad X pipe. So by mechanical tuning I'm guessing you'd have to reinstall the cams again?

As far as mechanical timing?
After listening to those videos with the other mustangs, it seems normal...
I listened to SEVERAL of them, they were all the same... So, I don't think there
is really a problem at all. The only reason to mess with the timing, like a tooth
one way or the other, would be to stop that lop sided idle, but it seems that's
what they're made to do.

Oh, it is for power, the sound is the side effect....

The mustangs in the videos you posted seem like they were in park/neutral instead of in gear. Seems like the sound is worse on mine, but like you said I changed the idle back up to 800 and that fixed it mostly. So I guess its just the cams
