Maybe cutting a bigger hole around the OEM hole to let more air in.

When I removed the air intake silencer from my 5.0 T-Bird , it made a big difference.

the only mod that's gonna do ANYTHING is the complete removal of it, to be replaced by a CAI or preferably a CAI/tuner combo. Not even the hi-flo drop-ins will yield a gain. Get that thing out of there and hammer-throw it across your yard lol...

I agree with way2cocky and s197richie (and probably a lot of others) about getting a CAI instead. I opened the air box on my Toyota 4Runner but that was only because I had the room to do it AND that I don't run the 4Runner like I intend to run the Stang. We bought our Stangs because they're muscle cars. If you want a bang-for-the-buck, get a CAI and tune.

yes, i modified my stock airbox.

what i did was, loosen the bolt that holds it in, unscrew the maf, take it out, and remove the whole stock intake and replace it with a JLT2 one with a brenspeed tune. now the intake is sitting in my garage. i make more HP with it in my garage than in my car.

A 90mm MAF has opening of 9.8 sq in
An 83 mm MAF (C&L) is 8.34 sq in
The stock 80mm is 7.74 sq in

The stock air box plastic opening is 12.5 sq inches. The rubber snorkel opening is 9.18 sq inches. (approx)

The stock air box opening is larger than both the stock and C&L MAF, I don't think the stock box (with a clean filter)is an air restriction.
