Stepping into the 21st century
Hey guys,
I'm looking to get an '05 GT coupe but I'm not sure what the thing is worth because the only experience I have is with the SN95 platform; I've got two of those . Car I'm looking at is Legend Lime, auto, 69K and is very clean. I'm not familiar with the options and trim packages, but what I can see is that it has the Shaker 500, cloth seats and no spoiler (?). https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/mustang...f26ebde20b.jpg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/mustang...087a933677.jpg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/mustang...5f89089375.jpg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/mustang...10ebd6026d.jpg I'm assuming it's a deluxe trim without the leather seats, but what else do I need to know about this car to determine its worth? Dealer is asking for $11,900 but I'm thinking no more than $10K because of the auto, cloth seats, no spoiler and that weird color. What axle ratio do these cars usually come with? I'm guessing 3.31? What do you guys think? Thanks in advance... |
You can run the VIN for the options.
Yeah, GTs have the 3.31 ratio. $11,900 for a 2005, with 69,000, not for me... Not when 2012s with their 305HP V6s are going for less. That GT may be a V8, but it's not as powerful as the 2011+ with the Ecoboost or 3.7 V6s, with more power, that can be had for less. Take a look around if that's what you really want. I got my '08 V6 for $5813, but after they had to put $1200 into it, they lost or got just about Book at the time. They started at $9200, and came way WAY down. Dealers always run a few $1000 more then private resale. There was a 2012 up here for $10,500, 3.7 V6 and continually came down, and down, to $5000, then all he got was $4800 for it, with 90-some thousand miles on it. Though, it was "R" titled, you could not tell, it was fixed up good. The car you're looking at seems to be in very good condition but it's way overpriced and yes, it's a Deluxe model with an optional Shaker 500 and spoiler delete.. |

I stepped up from a '95 GT nearly 5 years ago and the S197 is a vastly improved platform.

And I know I'll get flak for this but....I actually prefer the way the 05 to 09's look to any other Mustang design.

thanks for the response man! How much should I try to haggle them down to? I'm thinking $9500. The deluxe is beneath the premium trim level right?
Those who harp on about the 3.7 V6 having five more HP forget that it also has 40lbft less torque. The 4.6 also responds better to simple bolt on performance mods so even if both had just a CAI & tune, the 4.6 would make more HP and the difference in TQ would become even bigger. |
Yeah its about the torque not the horsepower.
in any case my friends are telling me to go in and lowball the dealer at $7K but I'm going to be a bit more reasonable and start at $8500; with my limit at $10K. It's a nice car but it's not a rare one, and it's not even a Premium GT so I think I'm being more than fair with a range of 9-10K. Any last words of advice would be appreciated. Thanks! |
You need to get them down on the price if you want it.

Around 9-12 thousand...
