I have an 05 mustang gt and started hearing a rattle noise "like pennies in a can" when giving it gas at lower rpm's especially in 3rd gear. I took it to a ford dealer and they told me it was just gear lash and its common in all mustangs. In the past couple days I have notice the sound become more obvious. Does this sound like gear lash or something more serious? also the rattle only happens not even a second and then its gone.

I have the same problem. The service rep at Ford told me the same thing. That it was gear lash and that it was normal. It bothers the crap out of me especially when there's someone riding with me to check the car out. They said they would have to take out the tranny to fix it. I've been on the fence about getting it done. It's put up for winter so I thought I would mull it over until I get it out again. Let me know if you decide to go further.....
