A tuner. X-Calibrator or Diablo are the popular ones.

I hope my question doesn't frustrate the more frequent posters on here, but can someone exaplin to me (or send me a link to where this question has been asked before and I coudln't find it) what is required to tune the car after installing a CAI?

Thanks.
I have not posted in a while so consider this your lucky day. As you will find when searching the forum most of the air intakes require a tune. Your best bet is to buy a package. That way you get a tuner that is set up with your air intake. What we do is test various air intakes and create tunes for them. The most popular are the JLT 2 and the C&L. Both require a tune but your car will drive very different than it does now. The throttle response will be greatly improved. Power is improved at part throttle and full throttle. We get customers that report increases and decreases in MPG. Most say they get improved but a couple think they get slightly less by 1mpg. I think a lot of it is how you drive the car. The packages are easy to install and takes only 30 minutes. We field test every package we have before we approve them for sale. Check out www.brenspeed.com for more info on the packages. If you have questions on the tuners or how they work feel free to call during the week at 574.834.7455 and I can help you out.

I live in California, do you know if any of the CAI's have a C.A.R.B number so it will pass smog inspections. Also when you use the turner do you have to put the origional program back before the smog inspection. I am considering the Diablo or the x-cal.
Thanks

I think there is a new player to look at. Anderson Ford "PRO PIPE" with SCT Tuner. Good write up in 5.0 Mustang. Check it out.

Does anybody know whether using a tuner will throw off the message center and give inaccurate readings on DTE and average MPG?
I heard that it does, but I just wanted to find out from those of you who use them.

Thanks!
