Default How Do You Break In A New GT???

Hey again! Question, what kinds of break in processes do you all use or did use on your new GT? What kind of oil change intervals, ex. at 1,000 then 3,000 then every 3,000mi. Also how many miles until switching over to a full synthetic oil like Mobil 1? How about oil weight, I live in South Florida if that help with any suggestions. Do you try to stay under a certian RPM until so many miles have gone by, and what about going over certian speeds? Thanks in advance!

No break in period. Drive like you stole it right from the lot. Modern CNC machining (I'm a machinist by trade) has such precise tolerances that there is no need for a break in on the motor. The standard tranny and rear end could see very slight benifits from a short break in to allow the gears to pattern to themselves. But in all honesty a long test drive would nearly cover that. Factory recomends oil changes @ 5000. I did my first @ 3000 second @ 6000 third @ 10,000 when I switched to synthetic, and I will be on a 5000mile cycle from here out.

Like said, drive it like you stole it, just keep it below 6200 rpm so it is off the rev limiter, and make sure any time you nail the throttle the motor is WARM. These aluminum block shortblocks have to reach 140+ to gain enough bearing clearance to keep from hurting themselves under severe loads! Cold, clearance is like .001 or less, and doubles upon warmup.

Yeah, the only thing you need to break in on an engine is the piston rings. They contour to their respective piston bores rather quickly. Drive it like you stole it is pretty much they way to do it. Build some pressure in the cylinders to really push those rings out agains the walls. Get some good deceleration vacuum between throttle romps to help get some oil lubrication also.

I drove mine 500 miles home on German Autobahns. I was a good boy varied the RPMs just like the book said. Of course, the RPMs were varied between 120 and 140MPH all the way home. Granted, running into this made me have to wind her down to about 110MPH once in awhile. [:@]
