06 unmodified GT vs. BMW

RE: 06 unmodified GT vs. BMW
thanks for the great info. yeah this thing had quad exhaust....didn't notice the chrome stripe on the front panel vents though. he seriously wasn't pulling that hard....the way he was excellerating, it "felt" like i could have taken him...but i usually just laugh at people who pass me up like that, or rev their engine at a stop. i figure, i'm driving around a sweet looking, brand new, black GT....i dont' have much to prove - even if the other guy IS faster...our cars still win on looks alone (especially against those z3 hardtops - could they have made those ANY uglier?)

TMG,
I've read that post before. If you notice the GT does have some mods.

I test drove an 05 M3 Vert before buying my Roush.
Funny, it didn't feel that fast. It also sounded like a spinning top, not a car, but there are too many reported 0-60 times sub 5.0 seconds for me to think a stock GT is faster.

RE: 06 unmodified GT vs. BMW
i own a 2005 mustang GT manual. and i will tell you that the MOTORSPORT bmw models will suprise you... the only problem with most M-powered bmws is they arent piloted by the drivers who can take complete advantage of them... so you have come across a 1999-2000 m roadsters, the lightest of the m-powered vehicles.. 240hp 5spd manuals, that could easily hit a high 13 second quarter when driven. now the problem is that a 2001-2002 m roadster has 315hp through 2k more rpms and is very hard to tell apart while driving beside. and the rarest of the z3 sleepers is the m coupe. the hatchback version with 315hp 3.2L inline 6cyl. this car is sameweight but alot stiffer... (my personal favorite) dont be fooled that car can run a 12.8 with correct conditions.. it uses the same engine as the 333hp 2001 e46 m3, but the lack of space of proper exhaust routing is to blame for the 18hp loss... because m3's are 6cyl with low torque numbers they are very weight sensitive and convertible m3's are bout 3 tenths slower... anyone who tells you that a stock 06 unmodifed gt manual or auto. will beat any bmw m car newer than 2001 is misinformed. im not saying it hasnt happened, but car vs car not driver verse driver the closest race a mustang coulld hope for would be a 2001 m3 convertible manual which is good for a 13.3-4. sorry boys & girls

Twister,
Not to hijack the topic but I noticed you have Tokico D specs. I've got them at home in a box ready to install but I can't decide on springs. How do you like their springs (ride, height,)? Shock adjustment: How many turns?
Thanks
Back to topic. All this bench racing is interesting but BMW's hp ratings don't tell the entire story. We've had 535is (180hp), and a '99 M3 (240hp I believe). I have a Saab with 240 hp...not even close. The 535 could easily hit 100 mph in 3rd and would easily outrun the Saab. I don't have track times but the '99 M3 feels like a close run for my '06 GT...prior to mods of course.

Thanks to all for the information. much more than i expected to hear - then again, i should probably give you all more credit
i still think the only way to truly find out how much faster the m-z3 is, is to punch the gas, next time i see one - it's the fun way anyhow
