12's N/A?
So here's the plan. I'm trying to break into the 12's with my car N/A. With the convertible's extra weight, right now i'm at 13.6 @ 102 mph on street tires with the full weight of the car and everything in it. I do plan to use a 3.73 gear ( I do a lot of highway driving ) and drag radials next time at the track and see what differences that they make, but i'm curious what else I could do to the car, suspension included (see mods list below). Other plans wil be the lightweight driveshaft, and better and lighter clutch pak with flywheel. I have seen the BBR heads and cams available, but I would rather not tear into the engine just yet.
Any suggestions? |

Id get 4.10s. I ordered them and i drive on the freeway at least 2 times per day. 2800rpm @ 80mph

RE: 12's N/A?
that shouldn't be a problem. try gears, tires, cai, udp's,dyno tuned predator or xcal2,and lower control arms. you should be able to break 12's with just those also take out the spare and if your so close but just can't make it then remove the passenger seat and rear seats at the track. every 100lbs= .1 second. from what i've read the seats weigh 40-50 each frt&rr. spare+ jack is about 40lbs and if you do the drive shaft it's worth .2 on a n/a car+its 30lbs. lighter.

ya dude weight is everything, i ran an 1/8 mile with my 95lb girl riding with me, told her to get out and ran a 1/10 quicker!!
she didn't like that too much tho |
RE: 12's N/A?
you can do it without removing everything. i have done it. good bragging rights against that vette i was lined up against too:D

RE: 12's N/A?
Good tips on the weight. Where can I find an aluminum driveshaft? I found the carbon-fiber one, but I'm worried about road debris hurting it. There's still alot of debris clean-up going on in New Orleans from the hurricane. I think aluminum will be the best way to go for everyday use.

if you goto brenspeed.com and look under the C&L + SCT package it says that with those 2 things, mac axel backs, and ET street tires at full weight he ran a 12.8 so there you go!

RE: 12's N/A?
there are a couple places that have aluminum ones out now..powerhouse,JPC and another that i can't remember...i made mine for about 300 bucks. actually ford made mine. but there are a ton of threads on this so do a search. '03 ford ranger shaft shortened 9" &change yoke to 03-04 cobra style and bolt in. all parts availible through ford racing and Bryant Motorsorts on ebay.all others are at least $600-700!! and i have NO VIBRATIOn issues with my shaft.
