i'm basically trying to go for 400 crank and dipping into the 12's in the 1/4.

Water injection, aggressive timing, huge cams, full exhaust, and a good tune will get you on your way. Those with ported and polished heads, oversized valves, bored and stroked block with high compression pistons would probably put your there, but you're entering the realm of the blower as far as cost is concerned.

I would do race cams, if there are any on the market yet, along with header and exhaust, tune it, and see where that puts you.

on www.brenspeed.com it says in the C&L intake and tune advertisement, that his 05 GT went 12.80 @ 108 in the 1/4 with only a C&L intake and tune, MAC axel backs, and ET street tires at full weight. Learn how to drive and shave some serious time!

fish,
you don't need 400 at the crank to run 12's but you will need to spend some $$ in tires wheels and suspension. if you have an auto buy a good torque converter or if it's a stick then you'll need a good clutch so you can launch at 5-6krpms. i almost got 12's with stock wheels and tires and with a couple more runs last year i would have easily done it. now i'm going for 11's with a stock motor and an auto. it can be done the car has to be set up to use every bit of power that you are making though.

well, still havent made the transition to GT yet. gotta sell my car first. but itd be an 05 GT stick. ill keep doing my research and whether i want to go s/c or not. i think a s/c with full exhaust and decent suspension would be fun. gotta figure out the pricing on that tho, if i can do it all for under 8 then i could probably go for it. im thinking saleen or roush for reliablity. I want power but i dont need some 500 whp monster. 400 whp would be nice tho.
