Want to go with 4.30 gearing but.....
Hey everyone, so i just got a mach one today and I really want to get new gearing for it. I have a buddy who had 4.30 gearing in his gt and he loves it so ill probably do the same. One thing im kind of afraid of it the rear end, can it handle the gear change if i was to go with bolt ons and slicks?

These cars love to rev so the 4:30's are a great choice. But like Matt said, be careful on the launch, that's a lot of impact on that rear end w/ those steep gears.
BTW your buddy has 4:30's in a GT??? Is he nuts? He best have a butt load of power to keep those gears spinning..

I agee with above. 4.30 and slicks is alot on your stock axles. Upgrade those while your doing the gears, keep you from having to open the rear twice. I would love to see that 60ft time btw!

I'd go with 4.30s but since I go about 40 miles a day on the highway... it's not very practical for my use.
But yes.... +128471 to our cars LOVING to rev up high.

RE: Want to go with 4.30 gearing but.....
I had 4.30s in my Mach for about a year. They were really fun when i first put them in, but got annoying after a while. First gear is pretty much useless on the street. I would start in second almost all the time. Over 60mph for more than 5 minutes gave me a headache. That being said, the SOTP difference was crazy. Second pulled very hard throughout the power band. I swapped them out for 3.73 once I got the Procharger. I would never go that low a gear again, FI or NA. Your rear end should be fine with the 4.30s and slicks. I broke my trans before my rear end gave out.
