Mach Ram-Air or Cold-Air?
 

I know the functionality of Mach Shakers have been gone over a million times and we all know you would have to be traveling Mach 2 to gethalf a poundof boost. But how much does it benefit from sucking in cold air? The original explanation for CAIs was that they get cooler, denser air from the fender well, so would'nt our shaker systems basically be one badass CAI? If the shaker is worthless as a mod, then would'nt all CAIs be pointless, and would'nt it be pointless to put a CAI on a Mach other than the fact that it helps straighten airflow (which is debatable)? Just wondering ya'lls opinions.

well the ram air in the ws6's and others seem to help them out a good bit. So i would go with the ram air ....i think thats what your asking.

i dont know how much the CAI helps...but when i was at the dyno i proved beyond a shadow of a doubt that the shaker makes a difference



I strapped the car to the dyno....put down 285 hp and 302tq
2nd pull was 284 hp and 302 tq
3rd pull, i had the guy raise the fan, from floor level, to in front of the shaker...

result---291hp 311 tq

I installed a JLT RAM Air Intake on my 2003 Mach1 and noticed a difference in the torque on takeoff, as well as when I am cruising the interstate, there is better throttle response in 4th and 5th gear. I think it has something to do with the fact that the RAI inlet pipe is larger in diameter than the stock pipe, so more air is getting in. Regardless of the science, it was a good investment in my opinion. I went with the RAI to maintain the scoop functionality. Technically, it should feed more cold air to the RAI than the CAI alone.

I have the JLT CAI (shaker still functional model). The end of the filter is cut outfor the ram air effect when the headlight is removed. The straight airflow also helps. I just figured the more air, the better. Noticed a bit more on the top end. I also just bought a Diablo tuner after reading that an increase in air should be accompanied by an update in the fuel/air ratio. Hope this helped.

i kept hearing arguments about how "functional" the shaker realy is. so i had to see for myself. i was surprised at the difference it made
