Default Clutch question...

So my 19 year old stepson comes home with a 2003 Mach 1
I guess he has to out do my GT vert! So I took it for a drive and noticed that the clutch feels very different than my GT. It seems to grab much quicker (closer to the floor) and seems to have a heavier spring. The car has just 23k on it.
Any thoughts from the Mach 1 forum? Oh, my GT is an '01,
but only has 3K on it.

Do you have a T45 in your GT? The difference in tranny and clutch size could make a difference. My Mach clutch is much different than my stock GT clutch was.

the mach's have upgraded clutches and torque converters to handle the extra muscle. Also, find out if your 01 has the T45 or the TR3650, the latter came halfway through the year, though I can't remember the build number the cut-off was. A little help out thereguys???????

My GT has the TR3650. I just wanted to figure out if his clutch was possibly out of adjustment. (if that's possible)
or just different.

STMPDE, supposedly our clutches are self adjusting but do react to something a couple people have showed me to re-adjust the clutch. You may already have been showed this but it was new to me and thought I'd share it with you. With the car off and in neutral, apply the clutch pedal to the floor and suddenly slide your foot off of it, letting it rebound out freely. After multiple times, like 5-10, my clutch feel was definately firmer and more catchy. If you haven't tried this before I hope this helped.

I was actually feeling like it was already catching too quickly...at least compared to my GT. My car has more play than his Mach 1.

I don't know the build number of the cut-off, but I want to say they did that for about the last four, maybe fivemonths of the build-year in 01, which probably would've put the cut off somewhere in the March/April timeframe, but that's just a guess so don't quote me there..

The 3650 I had always had a pretty quick grab. I didn't have topush on the clutchpedal but maybe two or three inches and the clutch would catch, plus it was always a pretty firmpush/pull, which I've kinda noticed from a lot of the ford's I've driven. I couldn't speak as to the difference between your GT and the Mach, but from what you describe thatsounds pretty much like S.O.P. for astock mach clutch to me, if that helps any broham..

This will tell you how to read the code in your door jam, so you can tell what trans you have.
