Default undercarriage cleaning

After checking to see if parts of my car were painted, in response to a Clarehills post, I got thinking of what would be a good cleaner for it. Most of us drive our cars often and it seems like something that, if we keep on top of it like every few months or so, we should be able to keep corrosion and rust at bay. Dude at the shop the other day used brake caliper cleaner for a couple spots and the oil melted right off. Y'all got any ideas?
