first time at the 1/4

so finally went down to ennis to go do the quarter mile because i had never done it before. i was still on street tires on a pretty hot texas evening but still didnt do to bad i dont think. first run was horrible!! bogged it big time and ran a 14.5 to top it off i was racing my buddy in his termi and he missed 3rd and coasted the rest of the way and tied me. next run was against a modded integra with a huge turbo and slicks on the front (looked really funny to me) but did better off the line this time with a 2.2 60' (still slow i know) and ran a 14.0 @ 102 next run was against another red mach. about the same mods he just had 4.10s and TB plus he was an auto. i get him off the light and ran a 2.2 60' and stayed about half a car in front of him the whole way down but time slip says he ran a 13.3 and i ran a 14.0 @ 103 then on my last run it was against a 3000gt with a turbo.decided to try and launch this one a lil harder praying nothing would break. so i get off the line better with a 2.1 60' and im pulling on the gt the whole time and i end up running a 13.8 @ 102 then decide to call it a night so with street tires and only a K&N CAI, off-road H, shifter and clutch i ran a 13.8 i guess thats a good starting point right? let me know what yall think

Your traps seem a little low.. I've only got a K&N drop in, o/r X and a Mac catback and i'm trapping 106 consistently.

Other than that, just work on that 60' and you got 'er.;)

Those times really arnt all that bad for your first time out. I remember I was running pretty consisitent 13.7-13.9 times when I first started going to the track. THe trap times are a couple mph low but that may have something to do with the temperatures as well. What were your shift points? Getting that 60 to < 2.0 and hitting the shift points should get you to low low 13s.

don't worry, for your first time out you did'nt do so bad. Keep practicing, maybe even get some track tires so you can lower your 60'ft and get better consistency.

i was shifting right at 6k for 1st and 2nd should i hold it out longer? i didnt need to get into 4th because of my stock gears i was right at 6800 or so when i passed the finish

I think most people hold out their shifts just a bit longer, and I also think most folks recommend quick shifting into 4th (you can pretty much power shift strait down to 4th). Try shifting at about 6500 in first, and then 6300 in second, and third. See if that nets you better gains I know I picked up about 2-3 tenths with that method.

The traps definitely seem a bit low like said. My trap was a 109 with an o/r H, catback and and paper filter. Good times for your first night out.

I don't shift into 4th because I am just passing the traps at almost redline. Just play around with shift points and you will get used to it all.

At least you're at the track turning times. Good work. That is a good starting point.

What kind of lights did you cut?
