9.0 is a pretty good general F/I c/r, but not necessarily ideal. For example roots / twin screw and to some extent turbo applications can benefit from an even lower compression ratio due to their ability to produce low end torque without needing a lot of motor compression in the lower rpms- they therefore can utilize (depending upon boost #s) anywhere from 8.0-9.0, while centrifugal superchargers which require rpms to build boost and lack low end torque benefit from a slightly higher motor c/r (9.0-9.5) to aid in motor low end torque. So its really just differs by the application and goals for the vehicle. I think 9.0-9.3 should be pretty good for my car being that it has 4.10s, and the procharger- low end should be important...but short lived :-)
