mach 1 vs 03-04 cobra motor
so i am jw what is the big difference between the two motors. I know that they both are dual over head cams and that the cobra has the supercharger but are the guts any different? sorry being a bit of a noob but i am going to look at a 04 mach 1 with 20k on it and they are asking 15.9 so i think its a steal. just would have to find a winter beater

that mach is a good deal..
the 5 speed mach 1s come with a forged crank, thats it, auto machs dont come with forged crank, 03-04 cobra comes with all forged internals, rods, pistons, crank ect and of course the cobra comes with a t-56 and cast iron block.

Another big difference between the two motors, compression ratio. Cobra - 8.5:1, Mach 1 - 10.1:1. The lower compression of the Cobra gets along well with boost, the high compression of the Mach 1, not so much. I can say through my own experience that the Mach 1 takes to nitrous very well, provided you don't go nuts and keep the shot under 150hp.

you are right, it did go boom, but he was also running a very lean and agressive tune wasn't he. i haven't read the post, but we can put a 2.1 KB and run mass HP and tq. with a safe tune.

As for the second part of your statement, I thought about putting my KB on my stock motor, and then reconsidered, for just that reason, non-forged rods and pistons w/10.1:1 compression is going to limit boost to 8lbs. or less. I took out the stock motor, put in an Aluminator long block with completely forged internals and 8.5:1 compression. The car is currently being tuned for 17lbs. of boost, and should last forever.
