My First Mach 1

hey everybody i just got my first mach 1 its a 2004 black on black riding on black bullit replicas. it already has a c&l cold air intake and magnaflow cat-back. what should i expect to run in the 1/4 mile if i am one drag radials and a good driver

jmac72187 03-29-2009 05:05 PM

Congrats!

With DR's and a good drive you could hit 12 technically. Most likely you will do low 13's.

rygi23 03-29-2009 08:12 PM

w/ DRs I'd say definately a 12. Anywhere from 12.9 to a 12.7, depending on the quality of track and conditions. Oh, and congrats and welcome to our Mach section. Where are you in MD? I'm in southern MD, down by MD Int'l Raceway.

I am in Frederick, MD about a mile from 75/80 Drag strip. What about if i put 4.10s and a tuner? Do you think it is worth the money?

p.s. Thanks for all the help and the welcomes been reading the forums but now have something to actually post about lol.

Mustang3GT07 03-30-2009 12:38 AM

Congrats on the car man. Thats the same color combo I had on my mach1 when I had it.

TubbaMach 03-30-2009 08:52 AM

Sweet!

4.10s should drop you another solid 2 tenths and overall driveability is much better. The tuner's good for recalibrating for the gears, but the advertised of the peak gain is 10 hp so it probably is more like 5...not noticeable from the seat. But a tuner and a dyno tune really wakes up the car throughout the whole powerband anywhere from 15-30 hp from what I've read and seen in clips. A midpipe should be highest on your mod list IMO and should be gotten before a dyno tune, those 4 cats restrict more than any set of mufflers will. Get some pics up...man.

Adam99gt 03-31-2009 10:51 PM

Very very shweet! You considering lowering her at all?

Adam99gt 03-31-2009 11:12 PM

Yeah i hate the 4x4 mustang look. I want to lower her but I just got the car on Saturday so it might take another couple weeks lol. What springs do you recommend?

maddad 03-31-2009 11:27 PM

vary nice ride enjoy!!

rygi23 03-31-2009 11:36 PM

H&R Super Sports for a little gap or Eibach Sportlines for slammed. I think both are around the same price, $230-240. Personally think H&R looks better. You will need caster/camber plates as well. I got J&M, they were less $ ($165) but still a reputable brand. If you feel inclined get the really nice ones I'd say Steeda is the way to go. You can probably compare different spring height in the "pics of your machs" sticky thread. Mine has Eibach Pro Kits with no isolators.

Oops it's not a sticky thread, last post in it was 03-02-2009.

Thanks and it is probably an easy question but I do not know that much about suspension, what do caster/camber plates do?

rygi23 04-01-2009 12:01 AM

When the car is lowered the wheels bow in, requiring adjusting the angle of the strut where it mounts to the strut tower. The stock plates at the top of the tower don't allow enough adjustability if lowering more than an inch or so. The aftermarket ones do. I didn't know much about suspension either, really still don't I guess, but to save money I followed directions and installed both the plates and springs so all I had to pay a shop for was the allignment.

Adam99gt 04-01-2009 12:15 AM

Ah, I understand now.

I know it's a few months late, but congratulations on the Mach 1. I actually have a diecast 1:18 model of a black Mach 1 (I just ordered a yellow one the other day).

Very stealthy Mach 1.

It all depends on what he wants. Everyone says "Get what I have."

The Race IMO isn't low enough but they provide a stiffer spring rate for handling.

Just go coil-over if you are looking for handling though. The geometry of our suspension makes the effective spring rate ridiculously low when using a spring in the stock position.

If you are just looking to go low then look into the H&R SS or Eibach Sportlines.

I G Joe 07-03-2009 06:14 PM

why waste money on springs that will just slam the car and provide nothing other than "good looks" the race springs cost the same provide those "looks" and adds to the handling abilities of the car and with stock shocks actually rides better.

I personally would run a spring that gives you better handling. I will be using coil-overs soon.

Most people just want looks though. Either way, conventional springs aren't great IMO unless you are stuck with them because off SCCA classing or your car clubs classing.
