When's a good time to build up the rear end?

Default When's a good time to build up the rear end?

And what are the typical parts used to build it up (be specific please)? I don't do much racing (drag to be specific), so I don't know if building up the rear even serves a purpose in my case.

What's the difference between...

"Eaton 8.8in 31 spline limited slip differential" and "Moser 31 spline axles for 8.8 in rear w/ studs"

Just my opinion ofcourse, but, other than having fun with steeper gears, you shouldn't worry about a full rear end build and spend the $ elsewhere if you don't do much racing or have any intentions of boosting it.

Well part of the reason why I was wondering is it seems I have a bearing that has gone bad since I had my gears installed last year. Just thought it would be a good time to do it.

not an absolute immediate must, but a darned good idea. But I'd have to say yes if drag racing with good rubber.

the eaton is the diff and the moser is the axles to go with it and comes with wheel studs so you dont have to buy new ones. to anwser your question if you dont do much drag racing esp if you dont have sticky tires i would say dont worry about it. you would be more than fine with stock stuff at your power level. i still have the 28 spline stuff just the hardened moser axles and do quite a bit of drag racing with MT slicks and have yet to break anything in the rear end **knocks on wood** spend the money elsewhere

I wouldn't bother in your situation Matt. The only reason would be for drag racing or road racing. Even with road racing/auto cross you don't need to build it, you just need to upgrade the diff to something clutchless.

what if you don't have a super charger? is auto cross ok with auto cross tires?
