Talking Former 5.0 owner now BMW owner looking to own a Mach 1

Hey everyone. Real fast backstory on me. I owned a 1991 Mustang 5.0 HO manual convertible for around 6 years. It was my pride and joy and invested all my time and money on it to make it look, run and sound as it should. Had 50k original miles on it when I got it and did a lot of mods to it with a few being a full exhaust (bbk equal length headers, O/R H pipe and Bassani Race mufflers), Recaro seats, rear seat deletion, lowered, 3.73(?) rear gears, Boyd Coddington custom rims etc. I then had to sell it to buy a 05 BMW 745Li which is what I still own. Now years later I am married and have a family(one son 4 years old) It is time I part ways with the BMW being that it is just starting to break down of age and it is expensive to repair and maintain and I don't need a luxury car like that anymore (bought it because of my job at the time).
Now to the point. My wife has given me the green light on any car I would like. But I have always had my heart with Mustangs and the 03 Mach 1s in general. Couldn't get one before but now I have been doing some research on them. So with that I have a few questions that hopefully can get answered. How reliable are they and how worried should I be of getting one since they are pretty old cars now and no sure how the power terrain stays.(oil leaks, trans problems, engines dying etc). Do they seem to break down a lot? I know it will be tons cheaper to fix than my BMW but I would rather not have to invest so much just to keep it running. And last but most important question to me. Will a 4 year old in car seat fit in the rear seats? My wife has a 08 Honda Pilot which we use for everything since it is so big and has lots of room. The Mustang would be just for driving in the city or weekends if anything not main transportation. Hope to hear back!!

It really depends on the car. I just picked up an '01 GT with 90K miles on it, but this car looks to be about half of that mileage. When you find a car you just need to carefully inspect it and determine if it's worth the asking price. As for reliability, I've owned a '98 GT that I bought brand new and still have it, and that car has been absolutely reliable for me and the car is now at 110K miles. The worst thing it experienced was the typical cracked intake. Again that '01 GT is also a really nice specimen and has given no troubles so far in the few thousand miles I've already put on it.

What you might encounter should be little things: factory CD changer/radio not working properly, minor paint issues, a door ding here or there, etc. I think the SN95 and New Edge are extremely well built, reliable, tight cars; much better cars than the 4th Gen F bodys that they're always being compared to, and I know because I also own two 4th Gen F bodys. Try to get the history of the car you'll be looking at; any receipts or information from previous owners will help. I don't trust Carfax or Autocheck because I've used them and seen them provide the wrong information, but it couldn't hurt.

PS: Just my opinion, but I NEVER would have sold a fox 5.0 drop top for a Bimmer. Driving a Fox 5.0 drop top says something; a Bimmer is just a Bimmer...
