How-To: Embedding a Picture in a post.

This tutorial is to show you how to embed a picture into your posts. Embedding a picture requires a 3rd party website to host your image, instead of using MustangForums to host your image (refer to posting an Attachment).

Embedding a picture allows you to post the picture in a thread at full size, rather than having to click a thumbnail to view the image.

I'm going to show you how to upload this image, just how you see it below:

Lets get started.

first off, you need to find a site that will host images (preferably for free... but if you like to pay, dont let me hold you back). I like to use www.imageshack.us because they do not require a login to host images, although you may choose to register if you would like to keep track of your uploaded images. Photobucket will also work, as well as any other image hosting site.

For this tutorial's purpose, Ill show you how to embed a picture using Imageshack.

Step 1. Go to www.imageshack.us

http://img370.imageshack.us/img370/9...enshot1xe1.jpg

Step 2. You want to click on the button that says "Browse...".

Step 3. Find the image file you want to upload. Keep in mind, most image hosting sites have a maximum file size that you can upload. most are over 1.5Mb, but you also have to remember, even file sizes that are 500Kb, will take time to load on most internet connections. so be aware of the size of image you upload, and keep in mind how long it may take to load for people to see it.

Step 4. after you click the "host it!" button to start the upload of the image, you MAY be brought to a screen that looks like the one below.

http://img383.imageshack.us/img383/5...enshot3bj1.jpg

ImageShack has been very sporadic about how they present their site to uploaders lately. sometimes you may see this page (above), sometimes you may not. If you do see this page, just click the thumbnail of the image, and it will take you to the next page (which is shown below).

http://img370.imageshack.us/img370/4...enshot4mh7.jpg

This is also another page you MAY NOT see. As of recently, ImageShack has revamped their site layout, and you may see this page, without your image. Dont worry. Just hit the Refresh button on your browser, and your page should look like the one below:

http://img212.imageshack.us/img212/2...enshot5yk0.jpg

Step 5. Although this picture is bigger than the thumbnail you clicked on a few steps back, this picture is again, nothing more than a thumbnail of the picture, not the actual picture itself.

So once again, go ahead and click on the picture, it should take you to the next page:

Step 6. This is where things might differ between users. I have provided below, the process for Firefox AND Internet Explorer, to show you how to acquire the link for the location of the image (required to embed the image into a post).

Please keep note of the internet browser used in each picture below, to help you determine which browser you should follow directions for, from this point forward.

If you are using FireFox you will want to right click the image on this page. Doing so, brings down a drop down menu which is pictured above. for FireFox users, you want to click the line that says "Copy Image Location".

Once again, this is what it looks like for FireFox users:

If you are using Internet Explorer, you will want to Right Click the image and click on the line that says "Properties"

http://img367.imageshack.us/img367/2...enshot7sa8.jpg

When you click on the "Properties" line, a window will pop up showing you the specs of the image. You can use your cursor, and Highlight the web address that is next to "Address (URL)".

To copy this, you can either right click the URL and select Copy, or you can press Ctrl+C to copy the link.

Step 7. Now that you have the link to the image that you want to post, you can now go back to the MustangForums page, and begin making your post.

When you are ready to input your image into your post, you will want to press the yellow button with the picture of the mountain. (this is pointed to with the red arrow).

Next, just paste the image link into the pop-up box, and hit OK.

Step 8. When you hit OK to insert the image, your post should look like this now:

When you hit the "Submit New Thread" (or "Post Reply") button, your complete. and your screen should look something like this now.
