Colorado is awesome! It's a whole lot more mountainous than SoCal and has some incredible elevation. I think there is a road that goes all the way up to 12,000 feet and you can drive up there! Wow! Independence Pass? I can't remember but I've seen pics and heard from people that even in the middle of June it can get snow up there!
I love road trips, especially long ones where you just drive from point to point. I want to drive from SoCal to Colorado one of these days. Pass through Hwy 150 (America's Loneliest Hwy) in Nevada, go through the incredible rock formations of Utah, then hit the Million Dollar Hwy (Hwy 550?) in Western Colorado. These roads are so iconic! Everytime I see pictures of them it reminds me of freedom....total freedom to roam in beautiful country where you can just keep going on and on.....great stuff.
We've been to all the national parks in Utah and I can tell you it's a trip worth taking. The rock formations there are simply stunning. The canyons are also incredible. Canyonlands National Park is beautiful and Arches is right next door. There were parts we couldn't see cause we didn't have a 4X4. Also been to Yellow Stone (Wyoming) and one piece of advice for anyone is that you can't see Yellow Stone in one day. Took us 3 days and we were rushing. Aside from that it was a three day trip getting there and 3 days back. That was a long road trip. The Grand Canyon is also beautiful and much easier to see and get to. Haven't been to Colorado yet, but one day for sure. There is a lot of beautiful land out there to see.
