Default How to test for a faulty fuel pump?

Hi all,

I sprayed starter fluid and the car starts for a quick second then shuts off. Can I still use a fuel pump pressure test kit to determine if the fuel pump is working even though the car won't start on its own? I have never used a fuel pump pressure test kit, so I don't know if it works without a car running.

Thanks.
Stephen

I can usually hear my pump prime when I turn the key before I start it, might be one way to see if its not working.
