IdleAir to curb emissions from big trucks at stopovers
The truck drivers across US either rely on auxiliary power units or idle their fuel guzzling diesel engines to provide cool and warm air, internet and TV. This however, has a serious impact on the environment as large amount of carbon dioxide produced by burning of fuel leave the vehicle during engine idle condition. This carbon dioxide adds to the global warming. It is estimated that idling engine alone produces 8 million metric tons of carbon dioxide alone in US. The GM’s Chevrolet is now pitching a system called the IdleAir that will provide the drivers with enough power to run laptop, ventilation and TV while avoiding unnecessary burning of fuel during idle conditions.
