2005 Mustang V-6 to V-8 conversion

I have a 2005 V-6 4.0L Manual trans Mustang coupe with a blown head gasket. I am looking to convert the car over to a 4.6L V-8. Besides the motor swap, an ECM from a 4.6L mustang, and exaust system for 4.6L, what else would be needed for a successful swap? What are the actual differences between the V-6 Mustang and the Mustang GT besides the motor size? Thank you in advance.

You would need a new transmission, driveshaft, rearend, just off the top of my head. Might as well get an upgraded tranny, an aluminum driveshaft, and the 8.8 rear end with 4.10s while your at it.

New suspension, transmission, driveshaft, rear end, wiring harnesses, etc.

EDIT: Beat me too it! :icon_starwars:

The car already has a manual transmission, so I would think that the rear would be an 8.8 for the added abuse of a stick. Also would they really make a different manual transmission for the V-8? Also I thought the 4.10 gears was more for a GT with an automatic. Thats what my buddy did.

Ford did use two different manual transmissions on the 05-10 cars; the GT had the Tremec TR-3650 and the V6 had the T5.

Look here and on mustangcollective.com for v6 to v8 swaps some of us have done.

...what makes you think you have a blown head gasket? That's rare in the 4.0's...

Yeah, the GT and V6 had different manual transmissions. That is something you must swap out when you drop in the 4.6. As far as 4.10s go, it really is up to you on that one. As I understand it, 4.10s make very short work of 1st and 2nd gear, so you have to be pretty quick to keep up. It really is personal preference.

Just sayn' but if you try to cheap out and not buy some of the V8 parts the V6 ones are going to break and will be more of a headache.
