4.0 to 4.6 or 5.4??
I have been talked into doing a motor swap instead of building and xcharging my v6 but cant decide which motor to do. Will they both be a pretty direct swap other than getting a trans and not sure what harnesses i will need? Any words of advice would be great.

So..for the 4.6 its best to get an engine harness, ecu, and motor from the same year as your car... you have a 2005 right? so I'm pretty sure you would want to get one from an 05-06 to make things easiest.
When you say 5.4 I'm not 100% sure what you mean.. there are 3 different 5.4 swaps that are done..
A GT500 5.4 4v:
For this you need a GT500 motor/harness/ecu/and tranny.. gets really expensive... but its OEM in the S197 so it has been done. Many have also done this swap on this forum I believe.
Triton 5.4 3v:
From what Iv'e read this is fairly simple as well.. but you run into problems with the intake. The F150 one is too tall. You can use a custom intake(expensive) to make it work. As far as the harness goes, a normal GT harness will do, because both of these are 3v . In addition, a GT tranny will bolt up fine, if you want an auto you def need an auto harness.
NAVI 5.4 4v:
This is my personal fav. It is semi similar to the GT500 motor but muuuuuuuuuuuch cheaper. With some modification to the heads you can use a coyote or boss intake on this one. The problem here is the harness, you would want to use a GT500 harness if I am not mistaken. That would at least make it easiest... in that case you would want to use a GT500 tranny and everything will bolt up.
Any way you go you, will need the appropriate suspension mods, and an 8.8 rear end.
