Swap 4.0 for 3.7
#11
I say go with an 05-09 GT if you like the look. No need to get a body style you're not 100% in love with for the sole reason of power figures...
With the money you save from buying a first gen S197 you can grab a supercharger. Plenty of 05-09 GT owners on here with stock internals and they don't have to swap their rear ends, and many get by with their stock 2 piece DS.

Yea, there may not be huge differences, but if the two models had identical specs i would chose the older model over the newer one. But, given that is not the case the newer models simply have more to offer with more HP and MPG's. From what jthorn says it would make more sense to just go for the 5.0 if I were to go through with a swap. The only reason im exploring other options is I was considering supercharging the 4.0.. but in the end i would have the same, or even still less HP than a newer model V6. So basically.. go big or go new.
Where are you getting this info??? It's wrong. If you super charge the 4.0L, you'll be at (or greater than) 5.0L V8 numbers... not 3.7L V6 numbers. An SC'd 4.0L will blow the doors off a 3.7L N/A.

I agree with your 3.7 comment, but a 4.0 with a SC is not putting down Coyote numbers.

When I took power and performance class at tech school we covered this and the resounding answer is you can have power or you can have fuel efficient. You can't have both. Sure the new ones do well and make good numbers but I promise if you start modding them or drive them "properly" you lose all that MPG. More power is made by burning more fuel. You should probably delete this as a factor. If you wanna go fast you gotta burn gas.

VMP Justin dynoed his at 398 at the wheels but with 16lbs of boost. That's getting up there though.
420 crank for the Coyote, what is it at the wheels?
Must be close...

Ok. Mine is stock pulley with 8.5 lbs and 335-340 at the crank.

The good news is you have LOTS of options, but an engine swap is a lot of work. I chose to supercharge since I love my car and just wanted a little more power.

I'm in the process of swapping engines for my truck and before you undergo this process let me give you a few warnings. Even though the engines are compatible with your platform it does not mean it is plug and play. I'm swapping to a carburated (yes i know its not spelled right) and wiring is a nightmare. Also finding mounting points for all the supporting components is vital, and lots of planning should be done to have a clean install. Without careful planning this project will draw out, and without extreme dedication you will not finish it in the time frame that is typical.
On the plus side, if you are not just seeking to improve your ride but have a hobby this will provide you with enough to do for quite a while. Sometimes it not just about best bang for your buck. If it is, then swapping engines is probably not the best thing for you to do.
