98 GT swap 95 Thunderbird Crate Motor?
Looking to replace the motor or block in our 98 GT 4.6 Convertible after two of the rods blew right through the block. This is the original 4.6L V8 2v SOHC Romeo block. Originally we were thinking to just replace the block and have found several motors available for about $200 more.
Since this should be much simpler to get complete motor and bolt on instead of just the block. I am looking for some advice on:
1) do you agree with this motor replacement approach?
2) I found a crate motor from a 95 Thunderbird 4.6 (pics below). Been told "it's in very good condition, out of a 95 Thunderbird. Was originally a factory crate motor and has about 30,000 miles on it. Excellent compression on all cylinders, new main bearings, gaskets and seals. Heads just rebuilt by Engine Masters (still under warranty) and replaced with new gaskets and bolts. This engine is complete including coils and injectors except for the fuel rails." Will this swap work?
3) If so, since only my block is bad in my motor I have all the other parts available that I can bolt on if recommended or need be.
Any feedback or recommendations on best way to approach is appreciated!
Thank you for taking the time to read this.
