Default Hi, sorry, newbie here..........

Buying a 1986 LX with a conversion from the 4cyl T5 to a 289 v8. Should the shifter be able to shift thru all the gears without the clutch fully engaged?

Like sitting with the engine off?

Or should the clutch be engaged to do this ?

Just want to make sure the trans is ok. Took the car out for a test drive and very hard to shift. Dont know if its a bad clutch cable or out of adjustment, or a bad shift fork.....

Thanks for any help......Rich

With the clutch engaged, there is some pressure on the transmission to hold the car and so it is possible the trans would be difficult to shift through all the gears without the clutch depressed.
