Swap S197 ECU in 1999 mustang GT
Hi, I am new member in MF and its my first time posting a thread. I am doing 5.4 DOHC (out from navigator) swap in my 1999 mustang GT Auto. my question is, Can I swap an ECU from S197 into my mustang GT? Will that make problem with the PATS? Can I bypass it? I am thinking to swap the ECU because I have HPtuners software that can only tune +2005 Mustangs.
Thank you in advance

sn95.4v, Off hand, I would say no. Swapping ECUs has always been a bad experience for me. I get around all the confusion by going carbureted. Yes, old school, but very rewarding . I was running a nasty 308, ECU and had nothing but headaches. Yes, my crew chief could have worked things out, but why the cost, time and aggravation? This may be a cop-out, but the carburetor results work for me. Best of wishes on whatever rout you choose.

It's best to obtain the ECU and wiring harness from the same vehicle donating the engine (navigator in this case). That is the easiest and most reliable way. An ECU from an S197 may not be able to be flashed for a 5.4 except for maybe the GT500 5.4 and that is different from a navigator engine.
