5.0 vs 5.8 qestions
hey guys, so i bought a 94 gt parts car, so i could v8 swap my 99 v6, i was wandering, what would be the more cost effective efi motor to build up, for say maybe 350ish, if not 400 horse, the 302, or the 351w, both are the same price at my local upull it yard,

A supercharged 5.8 can net 667 HP.
If you're staying Naturally Aspirated (NA), the 351 with four barrel carb will net the
highest HP, around 305 HP
The 302 BOSS of that year range NA is 290 HP.

It's always easier to get more hp out of a larger engine, most people go forced induction on the 302's to get them to 400hp plus. It's difficult to get that sort of power out of them without (maybe a stroker with a really good head cam intake will get you there though)

If that were true, the 4.0 should be kicking more than 210 HP... My Charger's 3.5 was 250 HP
and 250tq. Also not a VVT motor, and got the same gas mileage. These 4.0s should be doing
a lot more than 210 stock.

Ummm compare the hp of a modified 351 Windsor vs a 302 and you'll see the difference. I'm not talking about the engines you are mentioning. Between a 302 windsor and a 351 windsor you're going to get more power mod for mod out of the larger engine and they can take more hp before breaking than a 302.
