Are you using a timing light and cant see the advance?
what do you mean?

Firing order didn't change much.
Newer-->H.O. 302's: 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8

non-H.O. 302's & 351W's: 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8
Yours would be the second one here.

oh, i didn't understand. lol. I was meaning when its all together using a timing light to find the numbers on the harmonic balancer. but you can't find the dots on the timing chain... well, i'm not sure, is the chain dirty or worn down for any reason?
