Default Oil to Cam Gear?

Hello anybody, haven't seen this topic anywhere and though I should at least address it before I put the engine back together. Here's the story; 1974 Mustang II coupe, nice little car. The cam gear on the 2.8L V6 is gone-nylon chewed away. It looks like the whole gear is pretty dry-I couldn't find any evidence of oil in this area and was wondering if there is a port that squirts oil onto these gears to keep them lubricated. If so, I want to make sure that it is open and working before I put the new gear in place and button the engine up. Otherwise this seems to be a clean little car owned by an older couple and pretty well kept. It's even an ugly color-some sort of puke chartreuse green that should endear me to the neighbors. Appreciate all the help I can get here. Thanks in advance.
