Starting a tuning company
I was wondering how difficult it would be to start my own tuning company. I was thinking with some help from my dad and all the connections he has would probably be helpful in doing it. From my point of view I would start with an engineering degree, and start off only doing minor upgrades as far as designing bolt-on components and so fourth. Then eventually make higher and higher steps, through distributing parts to different customers, then end up doing actual vehicles similar to Roush or Saleen. I know that it is an extremely ambitious goal, and would take a long time, if it even happened. My dad is an engineer at motive gear so I could probably get some help from him on that side too. What do you guys think, any opinion or suggestion either way is welcome.

i think that there are hundreds of thousands of "tuner shops" in the country...good luck. to have a real shot at every having anything come of this shop, you will need a TON of start up capital. the items that roush or saleen sell may not be better than the same item from some tiny local company, but they are big companies because they can afford to market their stuff properly.

I dont think the engineering degree will help as much as fabing YOUR own suspension parts and then racing and winning with them. Roush started in drag racing years ago and Saleen raced in the SCCA and Shelby raced too. I think you understand.
