free market economy..... demand > supply = higher prices.....

and why do people think its ok for a dealer to sell below invoice but not above.... I can afford to pay the 20K markup... but will not!!! as I dont see the value in doing so... that's what makes this country so great..... if not we'd all be driving crap like this...

this is just a for instance. I payed 33 grand out of the door for my GT with premium everything. The gt500 must be about 60,000 out of the door. So what will the extra 27000 do.

I would salleen 550 hp blower to try and keep warranty - 6 grand
Brembo Brakes - 3 grand
Really nice sound system, mine for instance - 2.5 grand
suspension, clutch, driveshaft - 4 grand
exhaust - 1.8 grand

what else could we do for that remaining 10 grand. Easily put in the T-56....

DONT BUY THE GT500

I have a feeling if you walked in their with MSRP worth of money or an approved loan in hand, and worked them over for a week or two that dealer markup would go right out the window. You'll never find a worse money ***** than a salesman, and they can always get new cars. My GT had like 3k markup on the window sticker and I didnt pay anywhere near as much as MSRP.

Dealer in my area sold GT500 for $62,000 to a Dr. from California. Heflew to Missouri, picked up the car and then drove it back.
As long as consumers are willing to pay the price to get what they want(or at least what they think they need) the price gouging will continue.

very good point that prices a sky rocketing, but i worked in sells of atv/motox/street bikes, and i know that they are throwin prices out the a$$ I quit once they tried raping my buddy, they were selling cbr600rr for 11000 to people who dont know what they cost, hell you can get 1000rr for that, but they want to profit off people, but the people who have more $$$$$$ than they know what to use on keep buying which knocks our prices up. Which sucks, but then you think they spend 65000 on a gt with little upgrades, then we spend 30000, that means we have 35000 to spend in upgrades that will completly hand the other car a new rear

as long as there are suckers.....

I mean they are awesome, but it doesn't really seem like you are getting 20k+ worth of goodness. I mean you can have a v6 PP for a DD, and a tarted up GT thats as fast for the same money.

DONT BUY THE GT500
What people don't understand is the math doesn't quite work like that. Sure, for less than the price of a GT500 you can buy and then build a regular GT to make 500hp pretty easily. But, what you don't get with the regular GT is a 5.4L engine that has proved itself to be capable of handling over 700hp without so much as a hickup. At the very least, the GT500 can be made to put out 600 hp without really affecting the warranty. Try that with a Gt and you'll leave a trail of engine parts all over the street - that you get to pay for out of your own pocket. Figure in the reduced depreciation of the GT500, and it's not such a bad deal even with some mark-up (within reason).

I think there should be some rules/regulations when it comes to marking vehicles up
For those of you that think there should be laws regulating GT500 prices....

Truth is, the GT500 was waaay underpriced by Ford. Ford only hurt themselves as the public was obviously willing to pony-up serious cash which the dealer happily pocketed.

You can't really blame the dealer - people were/are willing to pay, so why not get what you can? I can't remember anyone complaining that dealers weren't charging MSRP for their F150's, so why should they have to charge MSRP for a high-demand car? Just because you want something doesn't mean the law needs to be changed to suit your selfish desires. We're talking about a car, not the cure for Cancer.
